Manufactured Homes are constructed to meet or exceed a national code called the "HUD" code (United States Department of Housing and Urban Development). The HUD code regulates manufactured home design and construction, strength and durability, fire resistance, and energy efficiency. It also prescribes the performance standards for the heating, plumbing, air conditioning, thermal, and electrical systems. These homes can be located wherever "HUD" code homes are permitted.

Built on a steel framework ("chassis") and entirely in an environmentally controlled factory, manufactured homes provide quality affordable housing. Like modular homes, these manufactured homes are transported to the home site where they are quickly assembled to give minimal exposure to the weather and fast move-in.
